ACT Notesbookmark

2008 has been a hard year for me professionally and personally.

Professionally: work has been challenging as my library department contends with a wide range of projects, staff shortages, budget issues - well, you get the picture. I'm grateful to work with a brilliant bunch of folks who are creative and hard working. One of the bright spots for the CCPL Collection Management team is that we've added library cat Nyx our mix.

Personally, my father Jay L. Chambers, was contending with dementia for the past several years. While he lost much of his memory, he never lost his kindness, consideration for others, his intelligence or his sense of humor. He was still able to enjoy music, though he had lost much of his ability to play flute or keyboards. Our family was able to spend time together this year, including a three week Transatlantic cruise from November 21 to Dec 13th. My father suffered a massive heart attack on Dec 16 and died on Dec 17th. His wife, my sister Carol and I were present when he died.

I look forward to 2009 and all the challenges and pleasures to come...

"Give us love, strength, courage and understanding to serve to the best of our ability". (one of my father's favorite blessings)

I'm playing around at Shelfari, LibraryThing, and Good Reads. I've set up links to my pages on these sites. And, yes, I have a hard time keeping up-to-date on these sites...
